The El Sobrante library has recently partnered with Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa, a California non-profit corporation recognized as a charitable organization under Section 501c (of the U. S. Internal Revenue Code). This organization is dedicated to providing nutritious meals to elderly people in Contra Costa County who are unable to prepare or purchase their own meals due to chronic health conditions.
Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa is currently requesting free COVID testing kits from the Contra Costa County Health Services in order to ensure the safety of their participants. The average participant in Contra Costa County is 80 years old, lives alone or with a codependent spouse, and has one or more chronic health conditions that prevent them from preparing or buying nutritious daily meals. Meals on Wheels relies on the generosity of volunteers to subsidize daily nutritious meals delivered to more than 2,600 homebound elderly people in Contra Costa County. The first step is to contact Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa directly. You can reach out via email or phone and inquire about volunteer opportunities.You can also visit their website for more information about their mission and how you can help. Once you have contacted Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa, you will be asked to fill out an application form and provide references. After your application has been reviewed and approved, you will be invited to attend an orientation session. During this session, you will learn more about the organization and how you can best contribute as a volunteer. Once you have completed the orientation session, you will be assigned a volunteer role. This could include delivering meals to homebound elderly people, helping with administrative tasks, or providing companionship and support for participants.
